| Description: |
| I. | According to the press release from the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (CDC) on August 15, 112 (2023), Taipei City, Hsinchu City, and Changhua County have reported their first local dengue fever cases this year. A total of 11 cities and counties nationwide have reported local cases, accumulating to 1,579 local cases. Additionally, dengue fever outbreaks in neighboring Southeast and South Asian countries are also gradually increasing. |
| II. | The recent hot and rainy weather in various regions is conducive to the breeding of vector mosquitoes and the transmission of diseases. Coupled with frequent travel and exchanges among faculty, staff, and students during the summer vacation, all cities and counties face a risk of dengue fever outbreaks. Therefore, all schools (campuses) are urged to strengthen the implementation of dengue fever prevention and control measures. |
| III. | All schools (campuses) are required to conduct weekly inspections of the indoor and outdoor environment, especially in high-risk areas such as school farms and construction sites. The frequency of inspections must be increased. If standing water containers are found, implement the "inspect, empty, clean, scrub" measures. Water storage containers should be scrubbed at least once a week, and should be inverted or removed when not in use to reduce the possibility of vector mosquito breeding. |
| IV. | When faculty, staff, and students engage in outdoor activities, they should wear light-colored long-sleeved clothing and pants, and use mosquito repellents containing effective ingredients such as DEET, Picaridin, or IR-3535 approved by government agencies to prevent mosquito bites. |
| V. | Faculty, staff, and students who have a history of activities in epidemic areas and develop suspected dengue fever symptoms such as fever, headache, retro-orbital pain, or muscle and joint pain should seek medical attention promptly and inform the doctor about their travel and activity history. Schools (campuses) are also required to implement campus safety reporting to allow the bureau to monitor the situation of faculty, staff, and students. |
| VI. | For information on dengue fever, please visit the CDC's official website (https://www.cdc.gov.tw) or call the toll-free epidemic prevention hotline 1922 (0800-001922) for inquiries. |
