Subject: To strengthen the prevention and control of dengue fever risk environments in our city, please ensure that your school (kindergarten) rigorously cleans and sanitizes the campus environment, controls breeding grounds, and actively removes standing water containers. Please be informed.
Explanation:
1. In accordance with the letter from the Taoyuan City Government Health Bureau, No. 1120086587, dated September 6, 112 (2023).
2. Given the continuous rise in dengue fever cases in central and southern Taiwan, and according to monitoring data from the Centers for Disease Control, Ministry of Health and Welfare, as of September 4, there have been 4,338 local cases nationwide and 137 imported cases, the highest for this period in the past 10 years. With the current hot weather and occasional rainfall, all counties and cities face a risk of dengue fever outbreaks.
3. Please strengthen environmental management inside and outside your campus and in vacant school buildings. Additionally, follow the "Self-Inspection Checklist for Dengue Fever/Chikungunya Mosquito Breeding Grounds" (attached). Conduct weekly inspections and eliminate standing water containers, and after completing the inspection, submit the "September 112 (2023) School Dengue Fever Breeding Ground Elimination Report" at https://forms.gle/DY9HVAw7sebH56XQ7.
4. Please note that Aedes aegypti eggs can remain viable after drying for over six months, and Aedes albopictus eggs can be preserved for about three months. Therefore, in addition to removing standing water from containers, the inner walls should also be scrubbed. Ensure thorough implementation of the "Inspect, Dump, Clean, Scrub" (巡、倒、清、刷) work. The Dengue Fever Prevention Center has compiled 15 tips for breeding ground elimination for schools to reference:
(1) Invert buckets.
(2) Change water and scrub aquatic plant containers weekly.
(3) Do not use saucers for flower pots.
(4) Keep drainage ditches clear.
(5) Apply larvicide to standing water in basements. (If larvicide is needed, please contact your nearest health station to obtain it. Precautions for larvicide use are attached. If your school purchases other pesticides, please follow their usage instructions.)
(6) Remove beverage bottles and cans.
(7) Cover cooling towers with screens.
(8) Remove plastic bags.
(9) Discard styrofoam boxes.
(10) Stock ecological ponds with fish.
(11) Fill tree hollows.
(12) Store cleaning tools indoors.
(13) Ensure no leaks under sinks.
(14) Flush toilets regularly.
(15) Ensure that garbage bins do not accumulate water.
5. Please enhance dengue fever awareness on campus and improve the knowledge of faculty, staff, and students regarding dengue fever. Strengthen self-health monitoring. If symptoms such as fever, headache, retro-orbital pain, muscle pain, joint pain, and rash appear, seek medical attention promptly and inform your doctor about your travel and contact history. If a confirmed case of dengue fever occurs, your school (kindergarten) must comply with the school safety reporting procedures and cooperate with health and environmental authorities in implementing all epidemic prevention measures.
6. The city government announced the "Taoyuan City Measures for Preventing Mosquito Breeding and Preventing Dengue Fever, Chikungunya, and Zika Virus Infections" on June 14, 112 (2023) (attached). Please ensure your school (kindergarten) strengthens breeding ground elimination efforts. The City Health Bureau and health stations will conduct unannounced inspections. If mosquito breeding grounds are found, action will be taken according to regulations.
7. Attached are the "Self-Inspection Checklist for Dengue Fever/Chikungunya Mosquito Breeding Grounds," the announcement of "Taoyuan City Measures for Preventing Mosquito Breeding and Preventing Dengue Fever, Chikungunya, and Zika Virus Infections," precautions for larvicide use, and related promotional flyers, each with one copy.
