Subject: In response to the ongoing local dengue fever epidemic, please continue to strengthen environmental hygiene and vector control efforts inside and outside your school (kindergarten). Please be informed.
Explanation:
1. According to the press release from the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (CDC) on September 19, 2023, as of September 18 this year, there have been a cumulative total of 8,481 local cases, with more than half of the counties and cities nationwide reporting cases.
2. Please continue to follow the "Dengue Fever/Chikungunya Mosquito Breeding Source Self-Inspection Checklist" (as attached) and implement weekly inspections of the school's indoor and outdoor environment, check for breeding sources, reduce containers, and actively eliminate standing water in containers.
3. Given that the eggs of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus can remain viable out of water for a period, in addition to eliminating standing water, your school (kindergarten) should also diligently scrub the inner walls of containers to prevent mosquito eggs from adhering to the walls and hatching again, thereby strengthening the "inspect, empty, clean, scrub" work.
4. The city government announced the "Taoyuan City Measures for Preventing Mosquito Breeding and Eradicating Breeding Sources for Dengue Fever, Chikungunya, and Zika Virus Infections" on June 14, 2023 (as attached). Therefore, please ensure that breeding source elimination efforts are strengthened. Health units will conduct irregular inspections, and if breeding sources are found, they will be handled according to regulations.
5. Please continue to strengthen dengue fever health education and promotion in your school (kindergarten). Use mosquito repellent products approved by government agencies containing effective ingredients such as DEET, Picaridin, or IR-3535, and enhance the knowledge of faculty, staff, and students regarding dengue fever. Additionally, please ask faculty, staff, and students to enhance self-health monitoring. If they experience suspected dengue fever symptoms such as fever, headache, retro-orbital pain, muscle pain, joint pain, and rash, they should seek medical attention promptly and inform their travel and contact history. In the event of a confirmed dengue fever case, your school (kindergarten) must ensure proper school safety reporting procedures are followed and cooperate with health and environmental units in implementing various epidemic prevention measures.
6. Furthermore, the Taiwan CDC has produced various health education materials and videos. Please actively utilize various channels (such as electronic billboards, websites, and online groups) in your school (kindergarten) to inform faculty, staff, and students:
