| Description: |
| I. | In accordance with the letter from the Taoyuan City Government Health Bureau dated April 11, 114 (2025), document number 1140030961. |
| II. | According to statistics from the CDC, as of April 7th this year (2025), Taiwan has accumulated 22 measles cases, with ages ranging from under 10 to over 60. Among these, 8 were domestically acquired infections, and 14 were imported cases, all from Vietnam. This represents a significant increase compared to the same period in previous years. |
| III. | The global measles epidemic has been severe recently, with ongoing outbreaks in neighboring Southeast Asian countries such as Vietnam, Thailand, and the Philippines. Vietnam is the most severely affected. Among the imported cases, several individuals developed early measles symptoms after returning to Taiwan. Due to the non-specific nature of these symptoms, they were not diagnosed and reported during their initial medical visits, leading to the subsequent need to mobilize medical institutions and significant public health resources for contact tracing and preventive measures. |
| IV. | To promptly identify suspected cases and break the chain of transmission, please maintain a high level of vigilance among your school's (kindergarten's) faculty and students. If any measles-like symptoms such as fever, rhinitis, conjunctivitis, rash, or cough are present, it is crucial to proactively inform healthcare providers about any overseas travel history, contact with measles cases, and measles vaccination history. For suspected measles cases, medical institutions should report to the health authorities within 24 hours, collect samples for testing, and strengthen infection control measures and patient education to reduce the risk of disease transmission. |
| V. | Among recent confirmed cases, there were young children over one year old who had not received the MMR vaccine and contracted measles during travel to Vietnam with their families. Please assist your school (kindergarten) in publicizing to parents the importance of avoiding taking infants under one year old or those who have not completed their MMR vaccination to measles-endemic areas. |
| VI. | In response to the recent measles outbreak, health education and promotion materials are provided as Attachment 1 for your reference. Please assist your school (kindergarten) in strengthening publicity through various channels such as announcements (postings) to remind individuals of precautions. The attachment for this matter can also be found and downloaded from the Bureau's homepage/Convenient Services/File Download/Official File Download section. |
| VII. | For information on the measles epidemic and related prevention measures, please visit the CDC's official website (https://www.cdc.gov.tw/) homepage/Infectious Diseases and Epidemic Prevention Topics/Infectious Disease Introduction/Category 2 Notifiable Infectious Diseases/Measles to browse and download information. |
