I.PTS has long focused on social issues. This time, in collaboration with Taiwan Bar, we have produced an animation on the "History of Women Athletes' Human Rights Development." From history, physiological biases, to modern competition performance, it explores the evolution of gender equality on the sports field. The animation content can accompany students in recognizing the formation of gender stereotypes and serve as material for teachers to conduct extended classroom discussions.
II.Animation Highlights:
(I)Olympic Equality Began with Administrative Chaos: The first modern Olympic Games in 1896 restricted women's participation. Due to administrative chaos in the subsequent Games, five women's events were accidentally opened, unexpectedly marking a new chapter in women's sports history.
(II)Pseudo-scientific Myths: In the 19th century, society used pseudo-scientific claims of "bicycle face disease," which made women ugly and unhealthy, to restrict their freedom of movement.
(III)The Mighty Power of Olympic Medals: As high as 60% of Taiwan's Olympic medals throughout history have been contributed by female athletes.
(IV)Invisible Discrimination Behind the Gold Medal's Glory: The external appearance attacks faced by boxing champion Lin Yu-ting and the sexual harassment experienced by referee Liu Po-chun highlight the subtle gender biases and violent predicaments that need to be seen.
III.Preparation Resources (Animation + Lesson Plan + Quiz): To reduce the burden on teachers for lesson preparation, the PTS Children's Educational Resources Network, in addition to the animation, has specially designed "Lesson Plans" and "Online Quiz Games." This allows teachers to use diverse methods to help students deepen their understanding of gender equality, jointly create a fairer and more friendly sports and living environment, and together with children, protect every dream that can shine without limits on the field.
