Subject:Due to the ongoing hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) outbreak in the country, please strengthen HFMD prevention and related health education during the summer vacation. Please be informed.
Explanation:
1.In accordance with the Ministry of Education, Department of Secondary Education, letter No. 1150063028 dated July 7, 115.
2.According to monitoring data from the Ministry of Health and Welfare, Centers for Disease Control, the domestic HFMD epidemic is showing an upward trend. In the 25th week of 115 (June 21 to June 27), there were 6,837 outpatient visits for HFMD nationwide, an increase of 8.3% compared to the previous week (6,311 visits). Additionally, as of June 115, there have been 5 cases of severe HFMD (including 1 death due to Coxsackievirus A4), and the risk of severe HFMD in young children remains high.
3.It is currently the summer vacation period, but many childcare institutions continue to operate. To reduce the risk of HFMD infection in young children, childcare institution staff should strengthen HFMD prevention measures in accordance with the "HFMD Prevention Work Guidelines" and the "Childcare Provider's HFMD Prevention Manual." Key points include:
(1)Educate children on the correct transmission routes, prevention methods, and related knowledge of HFMD. Promote correct handwashing, respiratory hygiene, and the importance of staying home when sick.
(2)Provide clean restrooms and handwashing facilities (including an adequate supply of soap or detergent), and post information on correct handwashing.
(3)Maintain environmental cleanliness and ventilation. Regularly disinfect surfaces frequently touched by children with a 500 ppm chlorine bleach solution.
(4)Monitor children's health and attendance. In case of HFMD cases or suspected outbreaks, report to the competent authority in a timely manner according to relevant regulations to implement preventive measures promptly.
4.Relevant materials such as the "HFMD Prevention Work Guidelines" and the "Childcare Provider's HFMD Prevention Manual" can be downloaded from the Ministry of Health and Welfare, Centers for Disease Control website (https://www.cdc.gov.tw/) under Infectious Diseases and Prevention Topics / Infectious Disease Introduction / Category 3 Notifiable Infectious Diseases / Severe HFMD / Important Guidelines and Teaching Materials for reference and use.
