| Explanation: |
| 1. | In accordance with the National Taiwan Science Education Center's letter dated June 1, 2022, No. 11104002120. |
| 2. | In line with the 2030 Bilingual Nation Policy and Bilingual Teaching Promotion Plan, and in response to internationalization and the need to strengthen students' professional English proficiency in science and popular science, the National Taiwan Science Education Center, in collaboration with National Taiwan Normal University, the New Taipei City Department of Education, and education bureaus in various counties and cities, is promoting the Scientific and Popular Science Professional English Proficiency Competition. This initiative aims to align with the new curriculum's foreign language proficiency and diverse competency requirements, enrich students' learning portfolio, and meet the demands of the Ministry of Education's Bilingual Learning Plan for Universities and Colleges and the Higher Education Sprout Project, thereby fostering students' interest in learning science and English. |
| 3. | To encourage active participation from teachers and students, this competition is free of charge and utilizes a digital online testing and evaluation system. The regional competition is divided into 6 regions. Any changes will be announced on the official event website. Details are as follows: |
| (1) | Participants and Eligibility: Currently enrolled students in senior high schools (including vocational high schools) (each student participant must have a supervising teacher), university/college students (participating in the general public group), and currently employed school teachers. |
| (2) | Competition Content: Divided into two categories: Scientific Professional English Vocabulary and Popular Science Professional English Vocabulary. |
| 1. | Scientific Professional English Vocabulary: Subjects include Mathematics, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Earth Science, Brain Science, etc. |
| 2. | Popular Science Professional English Vocabulary: Subjects include Natural Sciences, Life and Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Environmental Science, Biotechnology, etc. |
| 3. | Any additions or deletions to the above subjects will be updated on the competition website. |
| 4. | Schedule for the Northern Second District Competition and Grand Finals: |
| (1) | The Northern Second District covers Taoyuan City, Hsinchu City, Hsinchu County, and Miaoli County. |
| (2) | Competition Venue: National Chin-Yi University of Technology. |
| (3) | Competition Date: Saturday, December 3, 2022. |
| (4) | Registration Deadline: Friday, November 11, 2022. |
| (5) | The Grand Finals are scheduled for Saturday, March 11, 2023, to be held at Sanchong Commercial and Industrial Vocational High School in New Taipei City or an invited school. |
| 5. | Please notify the departments (colleges), relevant science and popular science teachers, professional subject teachers, or English teachers, as well as relevant teaching centers or offices within your institution, and include this in your semester activity calendar. |
| 6. | In order to ensure learning continues even when classes are suspended, and to promote learning through competition and assessment, this competition provides diverse online and offline practice and assessment resources for professional English, along with operational introduction videos. We kindly request your school to encourage teachers and students to download the software from the competition website and make good use of these learning resources for practice at home or at school. |
| 7. | Furthermore, to enhance the assessment quality and ensure the smooth running of this competition, we kindly request your school to encourage teachers with international proctoring qualifications in professional English to participate as proctors and to grant them official leave. |
| 8. | Please inform your school's teachers and students to participate and grant official (business) leave for participants. Personnel involved in organizing and participating will be rewarded according to regulations. |
