Description:
1. Dental technology refers to the business of manufacturing, repairing, or processing crowns, bridges, inlays, orthodontic appliances, and dentures for oral medical use. The Dental Technologist Act has been in effect for over 11 years since its implementation in January 2009. The law stipulates that individuals engaged in dental technology services must be graduates of a specialized or university dental technology program, and after completing their internship and passing the exam, they can register for the Civil Service Examination for Dental Technologists. Only after passing the exam and obtaining a dental technologist certificate can they engage in dental technology services. Those without a dental technologist license, except for dentists, interns from dental or dental technology departments, and those employed as interns within five years of graduation, will be fined, regardless of whether they are employees or employers.
2. Currently, Taiwan's population is concentrated in the Taipei-New Taipei-Keelung-Taoyuan area, resulting in a higher demand for dentures compared to other counties and cities. However, only Taipei Medical University in the northern region has a dental technology department, and its admission threshold is very high. Dental technology emphasizes practical skills. Recent experience shows that graduates from five-year junior college dental technology programs generally have better practical skills than university graduates and are more willing to enter the job market. As many members and peers in neighboring counties and cities have expressed difficulty in recruiting new staff, instead of encouraging students from the south to work in the north, it is better to encourage local youth to enroll in dental technology programs and return to their hometowns to work after graduation. Therefore, this message is sent to request schools to guide students in choosing this field.
3. There are only four schools in Taiwan offering dental technology programs: Taipei Medical University, Central Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Shu-Ren Junior College of Medicine and Management, and Min-Hui Junior College of Chiayi. Taipei Medical University offers a four-year undergraduate program. Central Taiwan University of Science and Technology offers both a four-year undergraduate program and a two-year undergraduate program. Shu-Ren Junior College of Medicine and Management offers a five-year junior college program and a two-year in-service junior college program. Min-Hui Junior College of Chiayi offers a five-year junior college program. Since junior high school graduates are more malleable, it is recommended to guide students with artistic talent or those who can concentrate on a specific task to apply for dental technology programs.
4. Currently, there are two admission channels for the five-year junior college program, with most slots available through priority admission without examination. Students can be encouraged to rank dental technology programs as their top choice. Alternatively, students can apply through the Southern Taiwan Five-Year Junior College Joint Entrance Examination, designating Shu-Ren Junior College of Medicine and Management or Min-Hui Junior College of Chiayi as their application school, and then follow the notification to the designated school for department assignment. Please prioritize dental technology. If your school has a senior high school department, it is also recommended to encourage students to prioritize the Dental Technology Department at Taipei Medical University or the Department of Dental Technology and Materials at Central Taiwan University of Science and Technology.
