Description:
1. In accordance with the National Academy for Educational Research's letter No. Jiao Yan Yu Yi Zi Di 1091302207, dated October 7, 2020.
2. The Ministry of Education first announced the "Standardized Table of Multiple Pronunciations for Chinese Characters" in 1999. Due to phonetic changes over the past decade, a review of multiple-pronunciation characters was conducted again. A draft was released in 2012 for public comment. After considering the feedback and making adjustments, the Academy was asked to provide professional opinions specifically on characters used in elementary and junior high school instruction.
3. To ensure the review results of the "Standardized Table of Multiple Pronunciations for Chinese Characters" are more aligned with common language usage and the needs of the classroom, the Academy has scheduled two public hearings (primarily online) for October 21 and October 24, 2020. Public opinions will be solicited on the 1,680 characters in the draft review for elementary and junior high Chinese language textbooks. The feedback received will be used for subsequent deliberations.
