| Subject: | Effective November 1, 2022, the Moderna (Spikevax) COVID-19 bivalent vaccine (original strain/Omicron BA.1 variant) will be available for booster shots for adolescents aged 12 to 17. Please refer to the details below for your reference. |
| Details: |
| 1. | In accordance with the Ministry of Education, Department of Secondary Education's letter dated November 1, 2022, Ref. No. 1110151810. |
| 2. | Based on the resolution of the 8th expert meeting of the Ministry of Health and Welfare's Communicable Disease Control Advisory Committee, Vaccination Group (ACIP), held on October 27, 2022, it is recommended that the Moderna (Spikevax) COVID-19 bivalent vaccine (original strain/Omicron BA.1 variant) be extended to adolescents aged 12 to 17 for booster shots. This includes those who have not yet received a booster shot and those who have completed a booster shot with a monovalent vaccine. The implementation will begin on November 1, 2022. The interval between the booster shot and the last dose of the primary series, primary booster, or previous booster shot should be at least 12 weeks (84 days). |
| 3. | Given the potential reactions after mRNA vaccination in adolescents, including rare but mostly mild myocarditis or pericarditis, parents/guardians are advised to carefully read the vaccination guidelines to understand the common side effects and precautions after vaccination. After completing the "Assessment and Consent Form for Vaccination of Individuals Aged 12 to 17," and after being assessed by a physician, vaccination can proceed. Furthermore, after completing the vaccination, individuals can join Taiwan V-Watch via QR code scanning to report their health status after vaccination. Parents/guardians can monitor their children's post-vaccination status, enhancing COVID-19 vaccine safety surveillance, related care, and response efficiency. |
| 4. | For individuals who are "assessed by a physician as not suitable for mRNA vaccines" or "wish to choose other types of vaccines," monovalent vaccines approved in Taiwan can be used as booster shots. Therefore, for adolescents aged 12 to 17 in the aforementioned situations, the available vaccines include BioNTech and Novavax. |
| 5. | To assist the public in completing their vaccinations, our city has planned to set up walk-in COVID-19 vaccination sites on Saturday, November 5, 2022, and Saturday, November 12, 2022. Please inform students and parents to take advantage of these opportunities: |

| 2. | Saturday, November 12, 2022, 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM: Infant and Child BNT vaccination station, providing the 1st to 3rd doses for infants aged 6 months to 4 years (a minimum interval of 4 weeks between the 1st and 2nd doses; a minimum interval of 8 weeks between the 2nd and 3rd doses); providing the 1st to 2nd doses for children aged 5 to 11 years (a minimum interval of 4 to 8 weeks between doses). |

| 6. | Students who receive vaccinations are eligible for vaccine leave on the day of vaccination, which will not be counted towards attendance records. This leave is generally for 3 days (including the day of vaccination) and may be extended if necessary. When students apply for vaccine leave, the homeroom teacher should confirm if there is someone at home to accompany and care for them. During the vaccine leave period, if parents need to care for their children, one parent may apply for epidemic prevention care leave. The aforementioned parents include biological parents, adoptive parents, legal guardians, or other individuals who are primarily responsible for the student's daily care (e.g., grandparents). |
| 7. | Attached are 1 copy each of the "City's COVID-19 Vaccination Station Pictorial" and the "Moderna (Spikevax) COVID-19 Bivalent Vaccine Vaccination Guidelines and Assessment/Consent Form." Information on the city's COVID-19 vaccination stations can be found on the Taoyuan Events Facebook page. The vaccination guidelines and assessment/consent form can be found on the homepage of the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (https://www.cdc.gov.tw/) > Infectious Diseases and Prevention Topics > Infectious Disease Introduction > Category 5 Notifiable Infectious Diseases > COVID-19 Vaccine > COVID-19 Vaccination Guidelines and Assessment/Consent Form. |
