| From January 5, 113 (Friday) to January 21, 113 (Sunday), "United Ballet of Ukraine Giselle" will be held at the National Theater of Taipei, Taichung Metropolitan Opera House, and National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying) respectively. We kindly request your assistance in announcing this to the public, encouraging teachers, students, and parents to participate enthusiastically, and to consider it as a reference for organizing off-campus field trips. | I. | The United Ballet of Ukraine brings together top Ukrainian ballet dancers from theaters in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa, and other parts of Ukraine. Each member has their own story, and their experiences with their homeland and the ongoing crisis resonate strongly with the themes of Giselle: eternal love, betrayal, death, and mercy. The company is led by Elena Gluridze, former principal dancer of the English National Ballet, who hails from the renowned Vaganova Ballet Academy in St. Petersburg. She previously served as the principal dancer of the English National Ballet and was twice voted Best Female Dancer by UK audiences. This production will involve her personal involvement in its creation and rehearsals. The United Ballet of Ukraine, with the collective efforts of all its dancers, both on and off stage, comprises the finest talents. Their strong support, whether through private assistance or public advocacy, allows the company to present an unprecedented image! In January next year, the dancers will make a powerful return. |
| II. | If there is one ballet that epitomizes 19th-century Romanticism, it must be "Giselle," one of the world's four major ballet masterpieces. Unlike the common short, stiff tutus, the exquisite and romantic visual effect of "Giselle" is created by the long, layered skirts of the Willis, the spirits of maidens, evoking a ethereal and poignant atmosphere like mist. In addition to the music, stage design, and costumes, it demands flawless dancing technique from the performers. |

| (II) | Synopsis |
| 1. | Act I: The innocent and beautiful village girl Giselle falls in love with Albrecht, a man who conceals his noble identity. Their romantic love at first sight, however, does not lead to a happy ending. Upon discovering that Albrecht is already betrothed, Giselle is overcome with grief, descends into madness, and dances herself to death. |
| 2. | Act II: The deceased Giselle transforms into a Wilis, a spirit of a maiden, led by their queen Myrtha. They lure men who wander into the forest to their deaths. Albrecht, filled with remorse, visits Giselle's grave to mourn. Giselle is commanded to seduce Albrecht into the trap of the Wilis, but her deep love and devotion to Albrecht defy the order. Ultimately, she protects her beloved, saving his life. |
