| Subject: | Forwarding one copy of the "2030 Bilingual Policy (2023-2025) - Enhancing Bilingual Teaching Skills of Domestic Subject Teachers - Overseas Short-Term Study and Cross-National Research Program for Subject Teachers - 2024 Overseas Short-Term Study for Domestic Subject Teachers" application brochure from the Ministry of Education's Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (hereinafter referred to as the "Department"). Please refer to the details below and take note. |
| Details: |
| I. | In accordance with the Department's letter No. 1130004922 dated January 16, 2024. |
| II. | To assist junior and senior high school teachers involved in the Department's subsidized bilingual teaching programs for specific subjects (hereinafter referred to as "Bilingual Subject Programs") and self-funded bilingual programs by cities and counties in improving their bilingual teaching skills, the Department has commissioned National Taiwan Normal University (hereinafter referred to as "NTNU") to organize the aforementioned program. This program aims to send selected teachers abroad for short-term study during the summer, enabling them to teach subject knowledge and language skills more effectively, thereby implementing government policy. Relevant information is as follows: |
| (1) | Program Implementation Method: |
| 1. | Study Period: Each session is 3 weeks long. Session 1 is scheduled from July 8 to July 26, 2024. Session 2 is scheduled from July 15 to August 2, 2024. Session 3 is scheduled from July 22 to August 9, 2024. |
| 2. | Number of Classes: 16 classes in total, including Arts (6 classes), Health and Physical Education (5 classes), Integrated Activities (4 classes), and STEM (1 class). Each class will have 20 to 25 students. |
| 3. | Host Universities: |
| (1) | Arts: Study at the University of Victoria (Canada), the University of Adelaide (Australia), and the Australian College of Queensland (Australia). |
| (2) | Health and Physical Education: Study at Auckland University of Technology (New Zealand) and Western Washington University (USA). |
| (3) | Integrated Activities: Study at Griffith University (Australia) and RMIT University (Australia). |
| (4) | STEM: Study at Macquarie University (Australia). |
| 4. | Individual Teacher Study Costs: Includes round-trip economy class airfare, accommodation during the study period, transportation between accommodation and the overseas university (excluding non-study days), and meals (excluding daily dinners). These expenses will be subsidized by the Department and managed by NTNU. Additionally, selected teachers will be responsible for their own personal expenses, including passport fees, visa fees, daily dinners during the study period, and overseas insurance. |
| (2) | Participation Method: |
| 1. | Eligibility: Subject teachers from schools participating in the Department's "Bilingual Teaching Programs for Specific Subjects in Junior and Senior High Schools" and "Self-Funded Bilingual Programs by Cities and Counties" in the 2023 academic year. |
| 2. | Number of Participating Teachers: A maximum of 395 subject teachers from junior and senior high schools participating in bilingual teaching programs for specific subjects will be selected in 2024 for short-term overseas study during the summer. |
| (3) | Application Method: All applications must be submitted online. The application website is detailed in Section III (3) Application Method of the application brochure. |
| 1. | Application Period: From Monday, January 22, 2024, to 11:59 PM on Monday, February 19, 2024. |
| 2. | Notification of Selection: The list of selected and reserve candidates will be announced on the "Latest News" section of the Department's website after Wednesday, April 3, 2024, and will also be formally notified to this bureau in a separate letter. |
| III. | During the teachers' overseas study period, your school is requested to grant participating teachers official leave (business trip) as per your authority. If there are any teaching or duty responsibilities, please arrange for adjustments, substitute assignments, and relevant personnel to ensure that teachers can participate in the aforementioned study without concern. |
