| Description: |
| I. | According to a press release from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) on October 1, 113 (2024), the CDC statistics show that as of September 30, 113 (2024), there have been a cumulative total of 223 confirmed local dengue fever cases (including 59 cases after the start of summer, with cases distributed in New Taipei City with 56 cases, Kaohsiung City with 2 cases, and Hualien County with 1 case); additionally, there have been a cumulative total of 217 imported cases this year, which is higher than the same period in the past four years. |
| II. | Typhoon "Shantou" brings strong winds and heavy rain, which may lead to water accumulation or flooding in many areas. The week after the typhoon is a critical period for dengue fever prevention. After the rain, it is necessary to specifically check for containers with standing water. If found, they must be cleared or treated immediately, and the "inspect, empty, clean, scrub" measures should be implemented. When inspecting campuses or engaging in outdoor activities, it is recommended to wear light-colored long-sleeved clothing and pants, and use mosquito repellent products approved by government agencies containing effective ingredients such as DEET, Picaridin, or IR-3535. |
| III. | If suspected symptoms such as fever, muscle aches in the limbs, headache, pain behind the eyes, muscle pain, or bone and joint pain appear, a dengue NS1 rapid diagnostic test can be used to assist in diagnosis and early reporting. At the same time, pay attention to whether patients seeking medical attention exhibit dengue warning signs, including abdominal pain and tenderness, persistent vomiting, mucosal bleeding, lethargy, and restlessness, and provide appropriate medical treatment. |
| IV. | Furthermore, the city government announced dengue fever prevention measures for Taoyuan City on June 1. If standing water containers and areas are not actively cleared, leading to the breeding of mosquito larvae (wrigglers), a fine of NT$3,000 to NT$15,000 will be imposed in accordance with the Communicable Disease Control Act upon discovery. |
