4. Introduction to Key Exhibition Areas
(1) About "Animage": "Animage" is Japan's first officially published commercial anime magazine, launched by Tokuma Shoten on May 26, 1978. As a pioneer in the anime magazine industry, it not only delves into behind-the-scenes stories and industry trends but also features interviews with creators and production teams, along with exclusive preview images that leave fans thrilled. Notably, the anime film adaptation of "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind" became the catalyst for the establishment of Studio Ghibli. Today, "Animage" magazine, after 45 years, remains an important bridge connecting anime works and fans.
(2) Secrets of Studio Ghibli's Founding Revealed: "Animage" magazine has a deep connection to the founding of Studio Ghibli. In this exhibition, visitors will get a glimpse into how "Animage" brought together animation masters Isao Takahata and Hayao Miyazaki, and how Toshio Suzuki played a crucial role behind the scenes, leading to the phenomenal success and box office triumph of "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind."
(3) The Birth of "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind": In this section, visitors will discover the story behind the creation of "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind," understanding how "Animage" magazine, starting with its manga serialization, gradually brought this work to the big screen. From concept sketches to film production, this area takes you behind the scenes of this legendary creation.
(4) Beloved Nausicaä: This exhibit also allows you to get up close with the enduringly popular protagonist of "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind" – Nausicaä. We will specially display her classic attire from the Sea of Corruption, as well as a life-sized restoration of the Ohmu and the God Warrior from the story, making you feel as if you've stepped into this world of fantasy and adventure.
(5) The Birth of "Castle in the Sky": This exhibition area transports you back to 1985, the moment Studio Ghibli was founded. Following the release of "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind," the studio launched its first work, "Castle in the Sky." At the time, Toshio Suzuki served as both magazine editor-in-chief and a member of Studio Ghibli, a dual role that made him a key figure in the animation industry. Here, in addition to special feature reports, you will see for the first time a 2-meter long model of the airship designed by Hayao Miyazaki before the release of "Castle in the Sky." This airship, which appeared in a Maxell commercial, has been perfectly preserved for 34 years.
(6) World Premiere! Large-Scale Dioramas, Immerse Yourself in the Animated World: Starting with the Catbus passing through the cover of "Animage" magazine, this area symbolizes fans stepping into animated scenes for photos, as if they are truly in the world of Ghibli animation, creating precious memories. To perfectly capture the unique atmosphere of Ghibli's popular animations, Studio Ghibli has specially sent a team of professional artisans to Taiwan to create exclusive photo scenes for their world premiere! Classic scenes from "My Neighbor Totoro," "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind," "Castle in the Sky," and "Kiki's Delivery Service" can also become magazine cover moments – an absolute must-see!
(7) More Than Just Ghibli, It Fueled the Japanese Animation Craze: In the late 1970s, the animation boom was in full swing. "Animage" fully supported popular TV animations like "Mobile Suit Gundam" and "Creamy Mami, the Magic Angel," dedicating extensive special features to them. This exhibition also showcases a large collection of manuscripts, precious original illustrations, and posters from that era. You can also see miniature realistic scenes of Gundam models, allowing everyone to look back at the history of these works and feel the animation craze that still influences us today!
(8) Exquisite Limited Edition Exhibition Merchandise, Not to Be Missed: Exclusive exhibition merchandise, only available at the souvenir shop within the venue in all of Taiwan! Featuring items themed around "My Neighbor Totoro," "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind," "Castle in the Sky," "Kiki's Delivery Service," and more, with exclusive new products for sale, including a limited edition Ohmu plush toy.
