| 3. | Performance Descriptions: |
| (1) | "Madama Butterfly" |
| 1. | "Madama Butterfly" is a classic opera by the Italian composer Giacomo Puccini, centering on the tragic love story between the young Japanese geisha Cio-Cio-san (Butterfly) and the American naval officer Lieutenant Pinkerton. Cio-Cio-san sacrifices everything for love but is betrayed, ultimately choosing to defend her honor with her life. The opera premiered in its original version on February 17, 1904, at La Scala in Milan, where it was a complete failure. Puccini made significant revisions, and a revised version was restaged in Brescia in May, achieving great success. The composer subsequently revised it three more times, with the final fifth version becoming the one widely performed worldwide today and the version adopted by the Hungarian State Opera. |
| 2. | The Hungarian State Opera's production of "Madama Butterfly," directed by Miklós Gábor Kerényi, one of Hungary's most internationally acclaimed contemporary directors, has been performed continuously for over twenty years, receiving widespread audience acclaim and has been invited to perform worldwide. |
| (2) | "Swan Lake" |
| 1. | The Hungarian State Opera Ballet is Hungary's sole classical ballet company, presenting a rich repertoire of classic and contemporary dance works annually, receiving consistent international acclaim. They perform approximately 100 shows each season, showcasing not only captivating full-length ballets with exquisite classical technique but also new creations by contemporary masters and cross-genre works incorporating elements of circus, all of which are highly popular with audiences. |
| 2. | Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's first ballet, "Swan Lake," is one of the most beloved classic works for ballet enthusiasts. This moving Russian romantic fairy tale tells the story of a prince and a maiden cursed to be swans. The dual role of the pure and innocent White Swan Odette and the seductive and cunning Black Swan Odile is performed by the same dancer, adding further dramatic intensity. The Hungarian State Opera Ballet's "Swan Lake," since 2015, has become a signature production, renowned for its grand ensemble of dancers and its magnificent stage and costume design. |
