Dear Parents,
According to the Ministry of Education's student vision screening procedures, any uncorrected visual acuity of 0.8 or below is considered poor vision.,However, this does not necessarily mean myopia. A more precise examination by an ophthalmologist is required to diagnose whether it is myopia. If diagnosed with myopia, treatment should be sought to slow the progression of the condition.Wearing glasses only corrects vision, it does not treat it.。After the school vision check, if students with poor vision are found, parents will be notified to take the students to an ophthalmologist for further examination.
Frequently Asked Questions:
1.Is it necessary to go to an ophthalmologist for a vision check follow-up?
A vision check follow-up must be done at an ophthalmologist's office.。According to the "Meeting on Incorporating Optometrists into Children's Vision Care Work" held by the Ministry of Education's National Academy for Educational Research on August 22, 2018,resolutionRegarding the follow-up and treatment return slip for the current school children's vision health check results, the referral for follow-up involves diagnosis and treatment. According to the opinion of the Department of Medical Affairs, Ministry of Health and Welfare, it should be performed by an ophthalmologist.
2.What should I do after receiving the school vision check return slip?
Go to a medical institution to see a professional ophthalmologist→Measure the prescription→Identify the cause of poor vision→Follow-up treatment → After the doctor fills out the results on the return slip→Ask the student to submit the return slip to the school health center.
(1)If you have visited an ophthalmologist within the last 3 months, please take the notification slip and return slip to the ophthalmology counter. Ask the clinic staff to help stamp and fill in the medical results!
(2)If parents take their children to an ophthalmology clinic during their winter or summer vacation, please write on the return slip that the visit is scheduled for the winter/summer vacation. After the visit, you can use relevant receipts (copies) and examination results to help fill it out, and then have the child submit it to the health center.
The vision check at school is a general preliminary examination, not a precise, diagnostic one like that of a professional ophthalmologist. If abnormalities are found, the school will first issue a notification slip, asking parents to have their child undergo a detailed eye examination by a professional ophthalmologist. Early detection and early treatment are very important!
Myopia is irreversible. Students in their school years are in a growth phase. If not controlled, their prescription may increase by 100 degrees annually. Reaching 500 degrees or more is considered high myopia, which increases the risk of early-onset cataracts, glaucoma, retinal detachment, and macular degeneration, leading to a higher risk of blindness in the future. Furthermore, the age at which students start using 3C devices has significantly decreased, so greater attention should be paid to vision care and strengthening the promotion of myopia prevention.
The school is also actively promoting eye care measures such as "30-10 rule for regular eye use" and "classroom clearing during breaks." Prevention is better than cure, and we kindly ask for parents' cooperation. Only by working together can we help children stay away from myopia and combat poor vision from a young age, ensuring a bright future for them. Thank you for your cooperation!
