| I. | Mika Ninagawa is renowned as one of Japan's most representative contemporary artists, internationally acclaimed for her vibrant, bold colors and unique visual style. Her creations span photography, film, fashion, visual arts, and spatial installations, pioneering a highly personal "Ninagawa aesthetic." Earlier this year, the exhibition "Mika Ninagawa Exhibition with EiM: Light of the Other Shore, Shadow of This Shore" held in Kyoto swept across Japan with its exquisite light and shadow and dreamlike floral scenery. In just over two months, it attracted over 250,000 visitors, sparking heated discussions on social media, with Japanese celebrities and figures from the fashion and art circles flocking to attend, creating an unprecedented sensation. Next January, the newly evolved "Mika Ninagawa Exhibition with EiM: Light of the Other Shore, Shadow of This Shore" will have its first overseas stop in Taipei. The exhibition breaks away from the traditional focus on flat photography, integrating video works, three-dimensional art installations, and EiM's innovative digital technology to create an immersive artistic space where reality and illusion intertwine. Mika Ninagawa, hailed as a "color magician," insists on creating works with real-life photography, without relying on computer-generated imagery, capturing fleeting moments of light and shadow in urban and natural landscapes through her lens. Through this exhibition, students will gain a deeper understanding of the contemporary artist Mika Ninagawa, stimulating their potential in art and aesthetics. Furthermore, Mika Ninagawa's journey of continuous breakthrough and transformation to achieve success without formal photography education can inspire students to bravely challenge themselves in various fields. |
| II. | Exhibition Highlights |
| (I) | "The Breath of Life" |
| 1. | With the theme of the "life force" of the city, the artwork projects images onto countless water tanks. The shimmering water blurs the lines between reality and the surreal, transforming the daily lives and memories of people in the city into dreamlike scenes. Visitors wander amidst the interplay of light and shadow, feeling a resonance with the city. |
| (II) | "Blooming Emotions" |
| 1. | This is a video artwork that guides viewers to explore their inner depths by "viewing flowers." Light and shadow are projected and overlapped from both the front and back of the screen, making one feel as if immersed in a sea of blooming flowers. Flowers, which have coexisted with humans since ancient times, beautiful yet fleeting, reflect the viewers' memories and moods, awakening hidden emotions within. |
| (III) | "Liberation and Attachment" |
| 1. | This space is composed of traces of emotions such as attachment, passion, and struggle that permeate from Mika Ninagawa's inner self. Pigments, frames, and fragments of images intertwine, presenting a state of mind wavering between the desire for liberation and restraint. Through this world, viewers will confront the shadows of liberation and attachment within their own hearts. |
| (IV) | "Dream on the Other Side of the Abyss" |
| 1. | This is a highlight of the exhibition, composed of an LED panoramic space resembling an endless abyss and a colorful, splendid garden. Visitors feel as if their senses are detached from their bodies, experiencing a "journey to the other shore" that delves into the depths of the soul, akin to a near-death experience. On the boundary between life and death, visitors will confront the essence of their inner selves, entering a space filled with a meditative atmosphere, pondering what they will see on the other side of the boundary. |
| (V) | "Whispers of Light, Dreams of Color" |
| 1. | An installation of light and color woven from approximately 2,000 strands of crystal beads. Motifs such as butterflies, flowers, hearts, and eyes not only evoke cherished memories like small jewels from youth but also symbolize the shift in perspective from being "looked at" to becoming an "observer." The work also pays tribute to women who could only express themselves through handicrafts, with its shimmering light seemingly recreating their quiet passion and prayers. |
